Hello Everybody,
Just dropping in to share my latest healthy breakfast recipe – Earl Grey & Apple Overnight Oats.
This is a super simple and quick recipe to whip up the night before.
In the morning, just get up, dollop some in a bowl, add some fruit of choice and tuck in.
You will soon feel satisfied by the creamy goodness of the oats, the zesty freshness of the grated apple together with the added boost of Earl Grey tea flavonoids.
You can also play around with the recipe by trying different teas – I like French Earl Grey, which provides a milder, more fragrant, flowery taste.
So, why are Earl Grey & Apple Overnight Oats such a healthy breakfast?
Here are a few reasons why the key ingredients for this breakfast will help keep you healthy:
Oats:
1. Heart Health:
I know I’m always banging on about the health benefits of oats, but they really are good for you. This is because they are rich in beta-glucan, a type of soluble fibre that can help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
2. Blood Sugar Control:
That same beta glucan also helps stabilize blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes or those at risk. It also stops those mid morning cravings.
3. Weight Management:
As stated above, because of the high fibre and the stabilising of blood sugars, after eating oats, you will have more feelings of fullness which can reduce your overall calorie intake – goodbye munchies!
4. Digestive Health:
Oats help to support a healthy gut by promoting regular bowel movements and feeding beneficial gut bacteria.
Apples:
That old saying “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away” does have some truth to it because apples help with:
1. Heart Health:
High in soluble fibre (pectin) and antioxidants, apples can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
2. Digestive Health:
The pectin in apples aids digestion and promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
3. Weight Management:
Apples are low in calories and high in fibre, helping you feel full longer and making them an ideal snack anytime of the day.
4. Immune Support:
Rich in vitamin C, which supports a healthy immune system.
Earl Grey Tea:
1. Heart Health:
Most types of tea all contain flavonoids that can improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol.
2. Antioxidant Properties:
Teas are also rich in antioxidants, which protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
3. Digestive Aid:
The bergamot in Earl Grey tea can help with digestion and reduce gut inflammation.
4. Stress Relief:
Bergamot oil in the tea has calming properties that may help reduce stress and anxiety.
5. Oral Health:
The polyphenols in tea can help inhibit the growth of bacteria in the mouth, promoting better oral health.
